Welcome to Hylton Quarter Horses
Guided by the vision of owner Cecilia M. Hylton and her son, George H. Markley, we commit ourselves to taking the best horses of today and making them even better. Cecilia has always had a passion for horses. In 1989, she decided to purchase a Quarter Horse mare of her own to show. Today, her interest has developed into a desire to run a premier breeding and training operation which spans from Virginia to Texas and includes some of the most desirable studs, mares, and babies in the industry today.
As president of the Hylton Group of Prince William County, Virginia, a real estate and development corporation founded by her father, Cecilia is used to the daily undertakings that a large operation entails. However, her love for horses has turned this operation into both her business and pastime. She can often be seen in the showpen showing in the western pleasure or performance halter, but spends just as much time wandering the pastures viewing her mares and babies and thinking about the future.
But perhaps what is most admirable about Hylton Quarter Horses is their desire to give back to the Quarter Horse Industry which they care so deeply about. Cecilia has a love for equine reproduction research and can discuss the newest innovations with some of the top breeders in the nation without missing a beat. Her belief is that the future of our industry lies in the research of today. It is for this reason Cecilia set up the Flashy Zipper Fund. This fund has been instrumental in providing grants and aid to the American Quarter Horse Foundation. While, Cecilia’s family trust, The Hylton Charitable Foundation, has provides grants to Colorado State University throughout the years. These grants have totaled over $500,000 to date. Cecilia believes that the future of our industry lies in the research of today.
Cecilia also believes in breaking new ground in the showpen as well. It is for this reason Hylton Quarter Horses developed the $50,000 Hylton 3 and Over Western Pleasure Maiden Futurity. This incredible class is held annually at the Virginia Quarter Horse Classic in April. A highlight of the year for many of the industry’s top professionals, the winner is awarded $50,000 with the remaining portion of the payout continuing down to tenth place.
Therefore, because of all her efforts and support for the Quarter Horse Industry, it is no surprise that in 2014 Cecilia was inducted into the Virginia Quarter Horse Association Hall of Fame.
